Mission Possible: Successful Canadian Cities

Mission Possible: Successful Canadian Cities

Mission Possible: Successful Canadian Cities, the third volume of the Mission Possible: Sustainable Prosperity for Canada is the final report of The Canada Project initiated by the Conference Board of Canada. While the image portrayed in the pages of this report is not negative, it does shatter certain myths about the economic situation of Canada and its major cities. The dangers threatening Canada’s economic prosperity are addressed in the opening paragraphs. Far more than just a critique, however, this report offers recommendations to the various government levels on how to ensure the prosperity of Canadian cities along with guidelines for making the changes required both feasible and sustainable. The creation of prosperous cities is described as an equation with four variables: a strong knowledge economy; connective physical infrastructure linking people, goods and ideas; ecologically sustainable and efficient industrial systems; and socially cohesive communities. Adequate budgetary resources and strong municipal leadership are also shown to be vital success conditions. This report is free to download at the Conference Board of Canada's website.
